Junior Engineer Academy in Internship

On June 27 and 28, 2019, 15 students from Paul-Gerhardt Gymnasium in Gräfenhainichen visited the Wittenberg location. The students are members of the elective course "Junior Engineer Academy" for grades 9/10.

Paul-Gerhardt Gymnasium, known for its annual awards from "Youth Research," won the competition "Junior Engineer Academy: Shaping School with Technology." The school's application was one of eleven concepts selected by the expert jury to be recognized and supported as a Junior Engineer Academy by the Deutsche Telekom Foundation. The foundation's goal is to inspire young people to pursue technical professions and study programs.

Feldbinder served as a project partner, offering the opportunity for students to experience theoretical concepts in practice. Under guidance, we provided the students with hands-on experience in technical tasks, allowing them to gain valuable skills. Over the course of two days, the focus was on manufacturing a stainless steel tanker truck model (1:20). The aim of the internship was to learn about the entire production process leading to the final product.

Under expert supervision, the internship activities began in the Technical Office, where the CNC file for laser cutting the model's sheet metal parts was created. After the laser cutting, the ninth graders had the chance to work at the bending machine. Throughout the model's creation process, they sawed, drilled, shaped, and screwed various components together. The welding process left a particularly strong impression, as each student was able to try it out.

The careful planning in advance paid off, and two models were successfully completed. Next year, Feldbinder will again take on the role of project partner and contribute to career orientation.
